We're looking for passionate, dedicated lovers of politically-exigent literature to join our team! As Apogee continues into its 13th year of publishing, we're seeking new editors to join our collective! We aim to fill the roles of Managing Editor and Web Editor:

1) The Managing Editor works closely with the co-directors, genre editors, and communications editor to oversee the content and production schedule of our issues (which come out 1-2 times per year). In addition to coordinating the production of our issues, the Managing Editor assists with various administrative tasks which may include: development, communications, scheduling meetings, and more. We'd love to find someone who has some management experience and/or experience with working with literary or other arts organizations.

2) The Web Editor works closely with the Managing Editor to build and launch our issues. The Web Editor also provides technical support for website, email and social media as needed. Please see below for specifics:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and maintain the company website, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness
  • Build Apogee digital issues with the Managing Editor, who will provide all content, proofread, and provide aesthetic notes
  • Evolve the content management system and implement updates, as needed (e.g. creating/modifying templates, static pages, etc.)
  • Maintain the site’s domain registration and update aspects, as needed (e.g. SSL certificate registration, hosting subscription)

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant web development languages and tools
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and website administration
  • Excellent understanding of SEO techniques, including keyword research, on-page optimization, and analytics
  • Experience with domain registration and management
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience with photo editing with good sense of graphic design
  • Familiarity with Wordpress and/or Webflow

Please note the current stipend for web editor is $1500/issue. However, we've recently received a one-time grant for $5000 to revamp and improve the functionality of our website--if you are interested in this project, please do reach out!

Apogee is powered by volunteers but we seek to honor our work with a stipend ranging from $900-1500 each year. These are fully remote positions with an average of 5 hours per week (flexible, with some parts of the year requiring fewer and others requiring more). Editors are also expected to attend a 1-hr staff meeting once a month.
